Some have been cast out by their employers and have no shelter, food or hygiene. Others are locked in, forbidden to take time off, forced to do extra cleaning with no protective gear.
In some places, a migrant domestic worker cannot end her contract and escape an employer unless she can prove she’s being physically or sexually abused. But proof requires a forensic doctor’s report that she can’t afford.
The International Domestic Workers Federation (IDWF) has a fund to provide food, shelter, hygiene and other desperately needed support.
