TRAPPED, FORCED TO WORK, NO ESCAPE
It is estimated that 4 million domestic workers are trapped in slavery. Isolated, not allowed to leave their employers home, they fall victim to rape, torture, and murder.
Locked in, forced to work for little or no pay — it is not work but slavery. This needs to end.
IDWF works to ensure that all domestic workers enjoy the same rights and protection as other workers.
Donate today, and help us stand up for the women who so desperately need us.

What you’re about to do could change a person’s life forever.
The nature of domestic work is that it is in the home, out of sight. For too many, that hidden space becomes a place of abuse.
The International Domestic Workers Federation (IDWF) works to provide necessary assistance and support to these essential workers

of domestic workers are women, and many are only girls
Why International Domestic Workers Federation?
Today, 67 million people depend on domestic work for their livelihoods. Almost all are women and the vast majority come from poor families and marginalised communities.
IDWF is a global federation of domestic and household workers governed by and for its members. We’ve been bringing those in domestic work together for 12 years.
We support member groups across 61 countries as they provide a vital lifeline for people living and working in desperate situations. They assist women fleeing abuse and connect them to vital medical care and legal services, offering support to more than 560,000 domestic workers.
Our collective aim is to:
advance the rights and working conditions of those who work in private household; many countries choose to exclude domestic workers from labour and legal rights.
All domestic workers face challenges – including hunger, exploitation and abuse – working behind closed doors.
Every day we hear from domestic workers who have been:
- locked in by employers
- forbidden to take time off
- forced to work
- Starved, Abused, Trapped
We bring domestic workers together and provide a safe space for people to share their experiences. These safe spaces are a lifeline for many.
These women desperately need shelter, food and hygiene – and they need help to ensure that they have access to the same rights as all workers.
We offer training so that domestic workers are better able to represent themselves and grow and develop as individuals. But we don’t stop there, we lobby governments for better protections and use our combined voice when corruption threatens justice. But there are thousands who are suffering alone.
Our partners are helping domestic workers, providing life-saving support while advocating for their safety. We have always provided funding to support both urgent and ongoing struggles but now we ask for your support.
